Kawawa.co is a passion project clothing company born out of the shared vision of a Filipino American husband and wife. "Kawawa" in Tagalog (Filipino language) translates to the word "pity," without it being condescending.

Saying “Kawawa” became an inside joke among their family and friends due to how often they used it to express empathy during sad and happy moments.

Whenever they would say “Kawawa” with those who aren’t Filipino, others would think the word is a positive term.

Over time, this word evolved into a symbol of positive mental health for both. The word “Kawawa” made each other feel seen and heard. Although the word's definition may have a negative context, saying “Kawawa” aloud slowly became a positive “things will get better” remark.
